​OUR STORY

Ade and Dodi, often called “brothers” locally (they are actually cousins) from Siberut, Mentawai, started their journey in 2004 with The Shadow Speedboats, taking guests to the best surf spots. It was a kind of Taxi Boat... the start of a dream, one built on love for their island and its waves, which eventually grew into the surf camp you see today.

Step by step, after 6 years running The Shadow Mentawai Speedboats, Ade, with his family working alongside him, start building the surf camp. Today, Dodi, Riyan, Papa, and the rest of the family remain the heart of The Shadow Mentawai, alongside our incredible team who make every guest feel like part of the family.

Since 2010, the family — together with many local friends — has been working tirelessly to create something truly unique: the only surf camp on a private island fully owned and managed by Mentawai locals, where every wave, every corner, and every story is part of our home.

​We are all a big family, but when we say we are a family is because we considerer our guests part of our family too.

We open this surf camp in order to enjoy. Yes, we offer services, rooms and surf, but the most important thing is that we join and enjoy every guest during the all whole day. 

What makes us different is that we are a local family, from the beginning until now we build everything of this place with our hands and with lots, lots of LOVE.
