The Shadow Mentawai is a surf camp located on a private island in the heart of the Mentawais.
Run by local Mentawai surfers, family and friends since 2012, we’ve been operating The Shadow Speedboats since 2004.
Whether you surf or not, this destination will be truly unforgettable.
No neighbors, resorts, or crowds — just coconut trees, isolated beaches, and pristine nature.
Our vision is to be as sustainable-friendly as possible, making the most of the options we have.
Here, you’ll live in the most natural way possible during your stay: surf, try indonesian cuisine, snorkel, visit local villages, chill by the pool, laugh with, read, yoga, rest...
After your activities, The Shadow Mentawai has everything you need for a relaxing stay, in a private setting, with the best value, and 100% owned and operated by locals.​

We welcome couples, families, friends, and solo travelers, with rooms for everyone: private or shared triples, twin and double bungalows or couple bungalow. If you are solo traveler who do not want to share, you can also get a private room for you. 

Small groups. We keep it personal, Max 14 guests (2 speedboats to cover all levels), with extra boats ready if needed.

We, the team, built this pool using recycled beer bottles from our guests and trash the sea brought to our island, along with all the materials needed to make it strong and safe. After 3 years of slow, loving work, it finally came to life! 
You may wonder why...we already have the ocean just meters away, right? But a fresh swim in the evening, safely away from the marine night life, was one of our dreams. Kids and families will enjoy it when it’s too hot for the beach. Nestled among trees and palms, it’s the perfect cool spot to relax, unwind, and chill.

RESTAURANT

We include 3 delicious meals: breakfast to order, lunch and dinner. Delicious authentic Indonesian food, as well as a long menu inspired by Spanish Cousine, Mexican, Peruan, Japanesse and Italian. 
We also have an extra menu in case you're still hungry.
Milk and Vegetal Drinks (Soy and Almond Milk) also included.

We are located in one of the few isolated islands in the area.
With no neighbours, camps, hotels or people around, you will enjoy the island by your own.

THE WAVES AND THE SPEEDBOAT

We are surrounded by waves everywhere, probably some of the best in the world, with 20+ surf spots within 30 minutes (Kandui, Ebay, 4Bobs, Rifles, BengBeng, Hideaways, Burgerworld, and more).
We offer a variety of waves to match every level: mellow and fun waves, barrels, challenging waves, long walls, and even beginner-friendly breaks.
We can safely say our boats are comfortable and reliable, making your trips to the waves easy and stress-free.
Faster boats = more time in the water 😉 That’s always our goal!
This is one of our home breaks, quite secret for long time, and most of the time it’s empty! We also have another fun left and a powerful A-frame just in front.
Our local team has been professionally guiding guests to the best waves based on their preferences since 2004. We listen to what you want and bring you to the wave that suits you best.
That’s why we run 2–3 speedboats at the same time when the camp is fully booked, so our boats are never crowded (max 7–8 guests per boat) and you can enjoy the waves without the crowds.

The place is beautiful, located on a amazing small private island, and the staff treated us as a family. The bungalow was preety, clean and comfy and with hot water, and the food was great. Huge thanks to the LEGENDS at the Shadow. My wife and I stayed 8 days for our honeymoon and had the most epic and memorable time. Not a day goes by where I don't check out the Shadows Instagram stories as I miss it so much! The team there are super chill and welcome you fully into their lifestyle with a big hug and even bigger smiles. What I love is The Shadow is an extremely well run business however there is absolutely nothing corporate or commercial about the place. We went with 4 other families, each with 2 children, ageing from 6 months old to 15. We had the best holiday and surf trip everyone could have ever dreamt of. The staff are more accommodating and helpful than any other surf facility we have ever been to. The surf guides put us in uncrowned great surf daily. The food was incredible and we all left feeling like we were leaving family behind. The best surf trip for 5 dads and their families. Do yourself a favour. Get some friends together and book a trip.

​I had the best time there a few weeks ago , got really nice waves , the surf camp is own by a local family and they are really good guys , they will take you to the best waves depend of the wind condition swell etc , also the food was 5 stars , I been eating super healthy for 10 days , a good mix of Indonesian and western food, the rooms are very confi with air-conditioned,Terimakasih Familia!!!
